Wood Mackenzie Forecasts De-linkage of Spot Gas Prices from Oil Indexed Levels Continuing Out To 2012 December 2008
Independent Energy Research firm Wood Mackenzie warns the emerging de-linkage of spot gas prices in Europe from traditional oil-indexed levels will continue out to 2012, posing a challenge to major gas suppliers. Reduced demand expectations in Europe combined with rising near-term supply will pull European prices down to North American price levels, and the future of oil-indexation in long-term European gas contracts may be jeopardised.

Wood Mackenzie Forecasts Apparent Linkage Between High Crude Oil Prices and Rising Refining Margins To Disappear July 2008
Wood Mackenzie says the apparent linkage between stronger refining margins and high crude prices in North West Europe will diminish in the long term. Wood Mackenzie’s latest downstream research report ‘Does A High Crude Oil Price Cause High Refining Margins?’ concludes that the apparent link will erode as additional upgrading capacity depresses margins, and demand growth for light products is impaired by high prices combined with efficiency gains in the vehicle fleet.
